In the 16th century, the Rieussec estate belonged to to the Carmes de Langon monks. Château Rieussec acquired by Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) in 1984. The vineyards of Château Rieussec lie at the junction of Fargues and Sauternes, and is adjacent to the Château d'Yquem.
